University for Senior Citizens was established on the initiative of the Institute for pedagogy and andragogy of the Philosophical Faculty in Belgrade, Educational program of TV Belgrade and NU "Braća Stamenković", where the project realization started in 1989. Encouraged by the idea of the need for full integration and participation of senior citizens into the life’s community through life-long learning and development, the Institute theoretically formed and professionally designed the concept and program basis of the University for Senior Citizens operation.
In 2002, the Society for adult education initiated the project “Enlarging the network of the “University for Senior Citizens” that contributed to the further development of the University. Consequently, Belgrade is today richer for additional 4 institutions that support this idea: Đuro Salaj AD, Cultural Center Čukarica, NU BOžidar Adžija and Academia Educativa.
Program orientation is towards organization of education content in several program units that have a large number of sub-programs.
